<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing a light pottery having properties of lightness in weight, heat-insulation, fire-protection and waterproofness. <P>SOLUTION: The method for preparing the light pottery is firstly to mix raw materials such as a powdery glass material, a powdery alkali metal silicate and a water-soluble polymer in a fixed proportion to form a dry substrate. Then, water is added thereto to mold it to a desired shape. After drying the moisture, heat-firing is carried out. The oxide or hydroxide in the alkali metal silicate lowers the softening point of the powdery glass material and the powdery glass material becomes a fluid state. At this time, bubbles are formed by the swelling due to a high temperature of the air and the crystallization water arisen from the alkali metal silicate. Simultaneously, the water-soluble polymer is changed to gas due to a high temperature and hermetically sealed pores are formed inside the shaped article, and communicating-type open pores are formed on the surface. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
