<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which shortens a correction process. <P>SOLUTION: In this correction process of a screen gamma table in this image forming device, patch images are generated by a representative reference screen gamma table among a plurality of reference screen gamma tables prepared for a common printing engine characteristic, a change in the engine characteristic of a printing engine is detected from output density detected from the patch images, and a correction gamma table is generated such that an input gradation value and image output density for the changed engine characteristic have an ideal relation with those at the time of a factory shipment, etc. A plurality of screen gamma tables for conversion are simultaneously generated from the plurality of reference screen gamma tables according to the common correction gamma table. Then, a series of correction processes including patch image formation, its output density detection and correction gamma table generation have only to be performed by the representative reference screen gamma table to eliminate the need for performing the correction processes for each of a plurality of printing media and for each screen, shortening the correction processes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
