<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique enabling the normal processing of compression-encoded data with an error detection code, even if encrypted, without requiring a meaningless retransmission request or the like on a device which receives and reproduces the data. <P>SOLUTION: The compression-encoded image data are inputted, and first error detection code information which is included in its header is examined, whereby whether or not the error detection code is added (S121) is determined. When the addition of the error detection code is determined, the first error detection code information is changed to information free from the error detection code (S122), and saved as second error code information (S123).
