PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an initial needle swing from decreasing after the direction of needle swing has changed in a zigzag sewing machine. SOLUTION: A needle swing direction judgment means (Step S13) recognizing a change of the direction of swing with a needle swinger from one direction to the other direction, a needle swing correction means (Step S17) controlling the needle swinger so as to form an initial stitch after the needle swing direction is changed by making the needle swing by a corrected needle swing (L+F) in which a prescribed correction (F) is added to the needle swing (L) determined by stitch data when the change of the needle swing direction is recognized by the needle swing direction judgment means.
