PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid catalyst or a prepolymerized catalyst therefrom which, in a polymerization vessel, does not generate polymer lumps or a sheet-like matter, does not cause a polymer to adhere to a polymerization vessel wall or the like, and does not lower its polymerization activity; and a polymerization method using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The olefin polymerization catalyst comprises (A) a transition metal compound selected from among the groups 4-6 of the periodic table; (B) at least one compound selected from among (B-1) organometallic compounds, (B-2) organoaluminumoxy compounds, and (B-3) compounds reactive with (A) to form an ion pair; (C) a particulate carrier, (D) a nonionic surfactant, and if necessary (E) an organoaluminum compound.
