<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic consisting of a single Ti<SB>3</SB>SiC<SB>2</SB>based crystalline phase, having excellent machinability and useful for a structural material in which toughness and plastic deforming property are required, a biological material in which excellent corrosion resistance and non-toxicity are required, an electrode material in which excellent electroconductivity or the like is required or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The ceramic is produced by adding an Al component into the crystal phase expressed by Ti<SB>3</SB>SiC<SB>2</SB>detected by X-ray diffraction. In the method of manufacturing the ceramic, stock containing raw material components forming the crystalline phase expressed by Ti<SB>3</SB>SiC<SB>2</SB>and the Al component is fired under a rare gas atmosphere. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
