<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molding die material suitable as a template for glass lens molding. <P>SOLUTION: This glass lens molding die material comprises a composite of glassy carbon and a vapor phase-grown carbon fiber. The content of the vapor phase-grown carbon fiber in the composite is not less than 0.5 volume % but less than 3.0 volume %, and the firing temperature of the composite is 1,400-2,300°C.
