<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quicken response speed of an active matrix liquid crystal display element which is not equipped with a color filter by sufficiently reducing liquid crystal layer thickness of a pixel. <P>SOLUTION: On an inside surface of a front substrate 2 out of a pair of substrates 1, 2 placed opposite to each other interposing a liquid crystal layer 27, a plurality of spacers 21 formed with predetermined height are provided avoiding a plurality of pixel electrodes 3, TFTs, gate wiring lines 13 and data wiring lines mounted on a rear substrate 1. A liquid crystal layer thickness adjusting film 22 is disposed on a region surrounded by a sealing part using a frame shaped sealant on the inside surface of the front substrate 2 and a counter electrode 20 is formed thereon. The liquid crystal layer thickness d<SB>1</SB>of the pixel is specified by bringing the spacers 21 into contact with an inside surface of the rear substrate 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
