PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone and a voice guiding method which has a voice guidance function allowing anybody to simply set any function from among a variety of functions as a portable telephone. SOLUTION: In the state 8 of a display 3 showing a waiting screen, a fingertip operation to push a specified key down in a user's operating unit 2 is made to start a voice guidance as shown by 9. A user operates the user's operating unit 2 to select any function among functions of items 1-X shown on the display 3, thereby starting a voice guidance showing required procedure for setting the selected function. According to the voice guidance, the user operates the operating unit 2 to set the selected function. Thus, the user, even if the user is an aged or poor in operation of machines, the user can set any function by only pushing keys on the operating unit 2 according to the voice guidance.
