<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly estimate a catalyst temperature of an exhaust emission controlling catalyst arranged in an exhaust system of an engine in a device and method for estimating the catalyst temperature. <P>SOLUTION: This catalyst temperature estimating device for periodically estimating the temperature of the exhaust emission controlling catalyst interposed in the exhaust pipe of an internal combustion, is provided with a first estimating means 10 for estimating a temperature of exhaust gas discharged from a combustion chamber based on the operating condition of the internal combustion engine as a constant catalyst temperature under constant operation of the internal combustion engine, a second estimating means 20 for estimating based on the estimated constant catalyst temperature a typical temperature of an inner wall of the exhaust pipe extending from the combustion chamber to the exhaust emission controlling catalyst, a third estimating means for estimating based on the constant catalyst temperature and typical temperature a catalyst inflow exhaust gas temperature led to flow into the exhaust emission controlling catalyst, and a fourth estimating means 40 for estimating based on the estimated catalyst inflow exhaust gas temperature the temperature of the exhaust emission controlling catalyst. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
