PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diffraction grating type demultiplexer which realizes passive mounting and is produced at low cost. SOLUTION: The demultiplexer is provided with, on a demultiplexer substrate 13, a light beam incident section 1, a diffraction grating 3 which is used to demultiplex multiplexed optical signals emitted from the section 1, a tapered type waveguide 4 on which optical signals that are demultiplexed by the diffraction grating 3 are made incident and cylindrical lenses 2 which are arranged between the diffraction grating 3 and the light beam incident section 1 and between the diffraction grating 3 and the waveguide 4. The demultiplexer substrate is provided with a cylindrical lens positioning means and a diffraction grating positioning means so that the cylindrical lenses 2 and the diffraction grating 3 are respectively arranged at prescribed locations.
