PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain quality of an image while suppressing rising of a cost by preventing show-through effects on an original, in scanning only one side of the original. SOLUTION: Two lens arrays 23a and 23b and two CCDs 19a and 19b are disposed inside a scanner module 2 to receive the reflection light in two directions having different angles from the direction orthogonal to the surface of an original 60, at the same scanning position on the surface of the original 60. A show-through effects preventing means is provided where the light quantity difference acquired from the reflected lights received with the CCDs 19a and 19b is compared with a reference value stored in a storage means 16 in advance. Based on the comparison results, it is discriminated whether the reflection light is that from the surface of the original 60 or that from the backside of the original 60. The light reception data only for the reflection light from the surface of the original 60 are used as an image data of the surface of the original 60. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
