PURPOSE: A method for controlling a recording optical power of an optical disk device is provided to optimally control a recording optical power according to characteristic changes of an optical disk when a recording process is re-performed, thereby improving reproduction characteristics for recording data. CONSTITUTION: When an optical disk is inserted(S10), a microcomputer detects an optimum beta value corresponding to a detected optimum recording optical power, and stores the optimum recording optical power and the optimum beta value in an inner memory(S11). The microcomputer increases the recording optical power in reference to a determined power variable quantity(S12). If a recording process is temporarily stopped(S20), the microcomputer enables an optical pickup to read finally recorded data, and detects a beta value from a reproduced RF signal(S21), then compares the detected beta value with the optimum beta value. If the values are identical or a difference is within a permissible range(S30), the microcomputer increases the recording optical power, and re-performs the recording process(S31).
