<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To write at high speed on a recording medium where small blocks each with a predetermined number of data are used as units for reading/writing data; data can be eliminated as a large block consisting of a plurality of small blocks; writing in the units of small blocks can be achieved randomly among the large blocks and among the small blocks; and writing of the small blocks within the large blocks needs to be done in the order of addresses. <P>SOLUTION: When the next small block to be written is the same as the large block including the previous small block already written, upon completion of writing of the previous small block within the large block, a determination is made as to whether or not the address of the next small block to be written is behind the address of the previous small block in the order of addresses.
