<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method allowing a manufacturer of a commodity to rapidly and accurately grasp a commodity function truly required by a customer to efficiently sell a product of a made-to-order type. <P>SOLUTION: This commodity ordering system has user-side devices 21PC-24PC and a maker-side device 31PC communicably connected via a network 1. Each user-side device 21PC-24PC transmits order placement data wherein information about a purchase-desired commodity 'electric washing machine' is added with information for specifying at least a purchaser and information for specifying a delivery destination to the maker-side device 31PC via the network 1. When the received order placement data are related to a mass production type washing machine, the maker-side device 31PC sends the order placement data to a warehouse personal computer 33PC.
