PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure automatic printing even for a photographic film having various types of frame sizes in consecutive frames. SOLUTION: The photographic system is composed of the following photographic film and a printing apparatus. The photographic film contains: a non-photographing area where through holes 19 for optical position detection are distributed and the information relating to the photographic film is provided between the through holes 19 for optical position detection; a frame size signal 12a which is recorded in the non-photographing area accompanied with exposure of an image in the effective photographing area and which designates the area to be printed; a frame number 41a recorded in the non-photographing area; and a film tip part in an almost straight line. Perforation for driving a sprocket is eliminated from the photographic film. In the printing apparatus, a plurality of the above photographic films joined by splicing is consecutively printed in steps of: detecting the frame size signal 12a and the frame number 41a recorded near the one edge of the non-photographing area; identifying the frame size signal 12a and judging a right of erroneous state based on the feed of the film; selecting the aperture size of a mask assigned in accordance with the identified frame size signal 12a; and printing the image in the photographic film onto a photographic paper 46.
