<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for purifying exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine or the like and, in particular, for eliminating particulate matter emitted from a diesel engine. <P>SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control device, for trapping and burning particulates, comprises electrodes 20, 30 and an insulative honeycomb structure 10. The exhaust emission control device is characterized in that the electrodes make an electric field in the insulative honeycomb structure, and that the honeycomb structure carries at least one metal selected from the group consisting of (1) an alkali metal and an alkali earth metal; (2) a material that generates oxygen radical by conducting an electric current therethrough; (3) a manganese dioxide; and/or (4) a material having a high dielectric constant. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
