<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing an end face of a plastic optical fiber by which the end face of the fiber capable of being used for an optical communication is formed at low cost without using a connector. <P>SOLUTION: A tip section of a tension member 2 of the plastic optical fiber 10 which is inserted into a through-hole 7 of a holding member 6 is pressed and crushed against a heating plate 5 that is placed opposite to one of the openings of the through-hole 7 of the holding member 6. Then, the tip section of the holding member 6, which is pressed and crushed by the end face of the member 6 and the plate 5, is sandwiched as shown in Fig.(A) so as to press and to melt the tip section of the tension member 2 being pressed and crushed. Then, the holding member 6 which is made integral with the plastic optical fiber 10 is separated from the plate 5 as indicated in Fig.(B) and the plastic optical fiber 10 is cooled. Then, the tension member wire 2 is pulled up from an opposite heating plate 5 side of the holding member 6 as shown in Fig.(C) to complete the processing of the end face of the plastic optical fiber 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
