<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adsorb/remove a malodorous substance contained in exhaust gas over a long period of time without increasing cost. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust gas is supplied horizontally to a scrubber and made to pass through a packing material 32 layer consisting of a reticulate material of a three-dimensional structure in such an atmosphere that a cleaning liquid for neutralizing and/or oxidizing the malodorous substance in the exhaust gas is ejected in a misty state so that the malodorous substance in the exhaust gas is neutralized and/or oxidized, and is then removed. The malodorous substance-removed exhaust gas is brought into contact with activated carbon C to adsorb the remaining malodorous substance on the carbon C.
