METHOD OF MANUFACTURE OF CYLINDER SLEEVE FOR CLOSED DECK TYPE CYLINDER BLOCK AND CLOSED DECK TYPE CYLINDER BLOCK

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a small-sized and light-weight closed deck type cylinder block. SOLUTION: The cylinder block 10 is molded by high pressure casting (HPDC). When a sleeve connector 60 is inserted in a communicating hole part 18 of the block body 10, a clearance formed between the communicating hole part 18 and the sleeve connector 60 serves as a water jacket part 62. An opening on the gasket surface 12 side of the water jacket part 62 is closed by a closing member 36 joined to the upper end parts of the cylinder sleeves 30a to 30c constituting the sleeve connector 60 by frictional stirring joining. The outer edge peripheral part of the closing member 36 is joined to the gasket surface 12 of the block body 10 under the action of the frictional stirring joining tool 50 by frictional stirring joining.
