The method involves determining environmental conditions of a motor vehicle based on intensity of rain, humidity of air, ambient temperature, ambient pressure and/or ambient light. A maximum authorized speed is defined and speed of the motor vehicle is limited to the maximum authorized speed according to the environmental conditions of the motor vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a device for limiting speed of a motor vehicle.
