<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optically modulate blue light, green light and red light resulting from color separation with a sheet of a liquid crystal panel. <P>SOLUTION: Light shielding parts 42 and light transmission parts 43 are alternately disposed on a mask member 4 which transmits one-third of white light 2L emitted from a light source 2. The light shielding part 42 has the same shape as that of the two light transmission parts 43 aligned in parallel. A first dichroic mirror laminated member 5 and a second dichroic mirror laminated member 6 color-separate the white light 2L passed through the mask member 4 into the red light 2R, the green light 2G and the blue light 2B neighboring without any gap while keeping an optical path length constant. The color-separated red, green and blue light 2R, 2G and 2B are respectively optically modulated with a red light modulating panel 7R, a green light modulating panel 7G and a blue light modulating panel 7B of respective cells in the liquid crystal panel 7. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
