<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal projector which is made smaller in size and thin in thickness in spite of its inexpensive and simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The reflection type liquid crystal projector has a light source section, a color separating means, first to third reflection type liquid crystal elements, and synthetic members and further has first to third luminous flux branching elements having first end surfaces, and second and third end surfaces orthogonal with the first end surfaces and parallel with each other and disposed between the respective reflection type liquid crystal elements and the synthetic members. The luminous flux branching elements are constituted to make the specific color components made incident on the first end surfaces through the color separating means approximately perpendicularly on the reflection type liquid crystal elements through the second end surfaces and to make the specific color components in the second straight polarized light state made incident approximately perpendicularly on the second end surfaces from the reflection type liquid crystal elements incident approximately perpendicularly on synthesizing prisms through the third end surfaces by the effect of a plurality of optical films which are disposed between the second end surfaces and the third end surfaces and have prescribed reflection characteristics. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
