PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read an excellent image in any reading mode by enabling accurately reading an image from the top of a document in both a color reading mode and a monochromatic reading mode. SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus having both a color line sensor and a monochromatic line sensor starts to read on the basis of a color reading start position when reading the image of a document in color, and starts to read on the basis of a monochromatic reading position when reading the image of a document in monochrome.
