The stopper (1) has a base (2) disposed at an end, and an elastically deformable damping unit at another end. The damping unit is supported by a support extending from the base. The support includes a helicoidal spring and a case of variable length. The case maintains the spring in a pre-tensioned state. The damping unit and the spring possess respective stiffness with one being more than the other. An independent claim is also included for an application of a stopper to absorb shocks of collision of a pedestrian in hood of a motor vehicle.
