<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling a hand-washing system, which can change a hand-washing procedure or a procedure of sensing the presence/absence of the hands, to thereby improve the hand-washing quality of the system while paying attention to the will of a hand-washing person. <P>SOLUTION: The hand-washing system is provided with at least a cleaning solution spouting device, a water spouting device, a sensor for sensing the presence/absence of the hands, and a control unit. According to the system, in addition to steps of 1. water spouting, 2. cleaning solution spouting, 3. pausing, and 5. water spouting, either or both of steps of 4. pausing and sensing the presence/absence of the hands, and 6. pausing and sensing the presence/absence of the hands, are added to the aforementioned steps in ascending numeric order.
