PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to prevent recording for the purpose of protecting data recorded on an optical disk to avoid recording or deletion which is not wanted by a user. SOLUTION: This method is for preventing recordings on the optical disk including a read-in area, a read-out area and a user data area. The method comprises (a) a stage to read out two pieces of recording prevention information which is doubly stored, (b) a stage to compare the two pieces of information and check whether they are matched, (p) a stage to determine a recording prevention status by the comparison, (q) a stage to prohibit recording when the recording prevention status is determined, and (r) a stage to update recording preventing information stored as soon as new recording preventing information is entered.
