PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable character recorder that records character strings on a printed matter as text data and enables them to be used on other equipment. SOLUTION: The portable character recorder is so designed that, when it scans character strings on a printed matter to be recorded, an optical reading part and a preprocessing part optically read in the character strings on the printed matter, a built-in character recognition part converts it into text data, a built-in recording part records them, and a wireless input/output part transmits the text data to a personal computer, a word processor or the like.
