METHOD AND DEVICE FOR GUIDING SIDE EDGE OF WEB TRAVELLING CONTINUOUSLY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily correct the position of the side edge of a web travelling continuously in a machine direction when it deviates from a required position in a cross direction orthogonal to the machine direction. SOLUTION: The side edge 31 of the web 21 travelling continuously in the machine direction MD is brought into contact with a roll 61 rotated around an axis 66 between the machine direction MD and the cross direction CD. The axis 66 is fitted to a reciprocatingly revolvable arm 49 to be revolved reciprocatingly inward and outward in the cross direction CD. The position of the side edge 31 is detected in the downstream side of the roll 61, and the arm 49 is revolved by a required angle based on deviation from the required position.
