The use of copolymer 1 and related peptides and polypeptides and T cells treated therewith for neuroprotective therapy

Discussed is the use of Cop 1 or a Cop 1-related peptide or polypeptide for the preparation of a medicament for treating neuronal degeneration caused by injury in the central nervous system (CNS) or peripheral nervous system (PNS). The aforementioned polypeptides can also be used in medicaments for the treatment of glutamate toxicity, wherein the said disease is not multiple sclerosis. Conditions that may be treated include Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's chorea, prion disease such as Creutzfeldt - Jakob disease, hypoglycemia and toxins.
