<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize a line to be easily released in a method for resetting an auxiliary path in a packet switching network using a line switching network. <P>SOLUTION: In response to an auxiliary path reset event (S1), a line for accommodating only the auxiliary path is searched (S2), and a line wherein the number of auxiliary paths is minimum, is selected (S3). With respect to all auxiliary paths accommodated in the selected line, re-routing of the auxiliary path is requested to a transmission source of each of the auxiliary paths (S4, S5). When all the auxiliary paths are successfully reset (S8), that line is released (S9). The auxiliary path transmission source searches a route candidate within a predetermined range (S12, S13). When there is no route candidate, the failure is reported to the request source (S15). Further, a route including a line wherein an idle band is minimum is selected (S16).
