PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a hydroxy ketone compound diastereoselectively and enatioselectively in a high yield without requiring a severe condition, by which the hydroxy ketone compound which has physiological activity and is an important raw material in syntheses of a medicine, a liquid-crystal compound, etc., is directly produced by using a metal-free catalyst while controlling environmental disruption and eliminating the dehydration treatment of a reaction system even in the case of a water-soluble carbonyl substrate and to directly synthesize aβ-hydroxy ketone compound to be an intermediate for various physiologically active substances, etc., diastereoselectively and enatioselectively in a high yield. SOLUTION: Two carbonyl substrates are combined by using a catalyst containing a tetrazole derivative with a heterocyclic ring containing a tetrazole ring and a nitrogen atom at theβ-position of the carbon atom of the tetrazole ring.
