PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ratchet type tensioner of low cost having high strength and excellent abrasion resistance. SOLUTION: A plunger 8 slidably mounted on a housing 7 is energized in a protruding direction, and a drag provided on the housing is engaged with a rack formed on a side surface of the plunger to prevent return of the plunger in a rachet mechanism in this ratchet type tensioner 1. The dog 17 is formed of sintered alloy of density of 6.8 g/cm<SP>3</SP>or more including Co by 5-15 wt%, at least one kind of Ni, Cr, and Mo by total of 2.0-10 wt%, and Fe and unavoidable impurities for the rest.
