PURPOSE: A method for managing subscribers in a remote data transmitting and receiving system is provided to automatically recognize the connection of a subscriber and complete the registration of the subscriber. CONSTITUTION: A remote managing system transmits a test pattern to an individual subscriber. In the case that values of flag bit and set bit of a subscriber unit management table are 0, a control unit of a subscriber terminal device enables a selection signal of the subscriber terminal device. The control unit of the subscriber terminal device sets up the subscriber unit management table according to the received test pattern and returns the test pattern to the remote managing system. The remote managing system completes subscriber registration when the set bit of the test pattern is converted into 1.
