<p>PURPOSE: A method for packetizing FGS/PFGS video stream while minimizing dependency between data packets is provided to improve the streaming performance. CONSTITUTION: A streaming video system(100) includes a video encoding computer system(102), and a plurality of client devices(104) connected to a computer system(102) by a network(106). An FGS(Fine Granularity Scalable)/PFGS(Progressive Fine Granularity Scalable) encoder(116) encodes received video stream according to FGS or PFGS coding scheme. A bit stream selector(118) decides available band width related to the network, and selects a group of desirable encoded bitstream segments based on a position of each bitstream, a necessary bit rate, and total contributions for distortion decrease. A packet generator(120) packetizes the selected group of the encoded bitstream segments for generating data packets minimizing dependency between packets.</p> |
