PURPOSE: An image display device capable of protecting an internal element and a method therefor are provided to prevent secondary badness by blocking that power is supplied to different elements when short is generated from one element. CONSTITUTION: A power supply unit(110) receives a certain voltage from the outside, converts the received voltage, and supplies a driving voltage to respective ICs composed in an image display device. A microcomputer(100) controls the operation of the image display device, and receives a short sensing signal from the respective ICs. If the short sensing signal is inputted from at least one or more ICs, the microcomputer controls the operation of the power supply unit.
