PURPOSE: A central control typed Karaoke system using a local server and a service method thereof are provided to offer a service of the Karaoke data through a central server without interrupt when the service offered from an ISP(Internet Service Provider) is disabled by hacking, virus, and bad connection, or the local server is failed. CONSTITUTION: The central server(30) is connected to the local servers(40) having an intelligent contents distributing function for downloading only the added or modified part of a music file and periodically updating an image file. A set-top box(20) includes a server selector having an intelligent traffic rerouting function to select an optimal service path depending on the failure of the central/local server as well as a connection state of the Internet network. The central server includes a server certification part(60) assigning certification information to each local server, storing the certification information in a server management database(60a), and deciding the operation of the local server through the stored certification information.
