PURPOSE: A power controller for an ink jet printer is provided to notify a user of an over-current generation and to shut off power supply in case of the over current generation by detecting current applied to a printing device. CONSTITUTION: A power controller(260) for an ink jet printer includes a power supply section(261), a driving switch section(263), a power switch section(265), an over-current detecting section(267), a discharge circuit section(269), and a power control section(270). The power supply section(261) supplies power into an ink jet printer system. The driving switch section(263) performs an on/off switching operation under the control of a control section(236). The power switch section(265) has a first switching section connected to an output terminal of a first AND gate and second switching sections, which are turned on/off according to the first switching section.
