PURPOSE: A channel converting apparatus for a digital TV is provided to reduce a channel time by previously performing channel scan using a tuner and a demultiplexer of a DOCSIS(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) modem. CONSTITUTION: Channel scan is performed using a tuner and a demultiplexer of a modem to convert channels. The modem is a DOCSIS modem. After the channel scan is performed by dividing the channels into certain numbers, update is performed. It is continuously checked whether the use of the modem is requested. If the use of the modem is not requested, a channel map is continuously updated at a uniform time interval.
