METHOD FOR USING VIRTUAL TARGET TO PREPARE/SERVICE SERVER-FREE DATA TRANSFER OPERATIONS ON SAN

PURPOSE: A method for using a virtual target to prepare/service server-free data transfer operations on a SAN(Storage Area Network) is provided to offer data transform such as encryption, decryption, and verification data generation without knowledge for features for targets of both sides associated with data transfer. CONSTITUTION: A data manager server(2) customized to the server-free data transfer operations communicates with the SAN(4) interconnected with multiple data storages through a network connection method such as an arbitrating loop device and a switching fabric. The storage manager server includes a disc storage system(6) and a tape library storage system(8), and communicates with the LAN(Local Area Network)(10) including more than one data processing clients such as a client system(12). Data sets(14A,14B) associated with the client system are present on storage resources in the SAN. At initial stage, the client system places the data sets to each storage resource through a unique connection to the SAN or the storage manager server.
