<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high exhaust emission control effect by preventing fuel consumption degradation while improving fuel consumption by reducing pumping loss by minimizing mixing of EGR gas and sucked air in an EGR stratified combustion. <P>SOLUTION: An intake passage is divided into three regions A, B and C, EGR gas is introduced to one partition C, and sucked air is made to flow from the other partition B.
