<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection display optical system which has improved illumination efficiency and improved uniformity by suppressing the occurrence of a trapezoidal distortion. <P>SOLUTION: The projection type display optical system comprises a light source 80, a DMD 10 which is an image display means to be irradiated with the light outputted from the light source, an illumination unit which is disposed between the light source and the image display means and includes a rod lens 60 being the optical system for outputting the incident light from the light source so as to have a uniform distribution, a first lens 50 for transmitting the light emitted from the rod lens and a second lens 40 on which the transmitted light from the first lens is made incident and a projection section which magnifies and projects an image formed on the image display means onto a screen. The first and second lens 50 and 40 are so set in such a manner that the optical axis of the first lens and the optical axis of the second lens do not coincide with each other, and a surface image that is formed on an emitting surface of the rod lens 60 and is transmitted through the first and the second lens is not inclined to the surface of the image display means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
