PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an automatic transmission for vehicle capable of preventing shocks during the down-shift in the up-shift with the accelerator off, and enhancing responsiveness. SOLUTION: The control device of the automatic transmission for vehicle includes an inertia phase start determination means 94 to determine whether or not the inertia phase of the up-shift is started based on the change of the turbine rotational speed N<SB>T</SB>, a synchronous rotational speed continuance determination means 98 to determine whether or not the turbine rotational speed N<SB>T</SB>is continued for the reference time T<SB>ST</SB>at a predetermined synchronous rotational speed, and a reference time determination means 96 to change the reference time T<SB>ST</SB>in the synchronous rotational speed continuance determination means 98 according to the result of determination by the inertia phase start determination means 94 during the multiple speed change output. The torque capacity on the up-engagement side can be roughly estimated depending on whether or not the inertia phase is started, and responsiveness in a case in which it is estimated that the torque capacity on the up-engagement side is sufficient can be enhanced by changing the determination time according to the result.
