SECONDARY ALCOHOL DEHYDROGENASE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enzyme which can be used for synthesizing an optically active alcohol, especially an optically active secondary alcohol, and has excellent stability. SOLUTION: This new secondary alcohol dehydrogenase having excellent stability is originated from a microorganism belonging to the genus Burkholderia and selectively oxidizes the (R) isomer of 2-butanol in the presence of NAD as a coenzyme. The method for producing the secondary alcohol dehydrogenase comprises culturing the microorganism belonging to the genus Burkholderia and then collecting the enzyme from the culture product.
