PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more improve picture quality in digital halftone screening. SOLUTION: The multi-level digital halftone screening method for reproducing multi-stage concentrations with dots is set with a first dot growth step of growing the dots in a single color portion and a second dot growth step of growing the dots in a mixed color portion, and the dots are grown by selectively using the first and second dot growth steps for the single color portion and the mixed color portion. In this case, the dots are grown to be expanded and to eliminate a blank paper portion in the first dot growth step, and the dots are grown to reduce the overlapping of dots as much as possible in the second dot growth step.
