PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that extends the service life of an image carrier such as an intermediate transfer body used for forming an image formed of developers with different colors on it and reduces running costs. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 capable of forming an image formed of developers with different colors or a developer with one color includes: a first image carrier 1; a second image carrier 71; an image forming means G which forms a developer image on the first image carrier 1; a first transfer means 72 which transfers the developer image between the first image carrier 1 and the second image carrier 71; and a second transfer means 9 which transfers the developer image from the first image carrier 1 to a recording medium P.
