PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic flaw detector and an ultrasonic flaw detection method wherein calculation accuracy for significantly calculating the size of a minute flaw is raised to higher accuracy. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic flaw detector detects a flaw 12 existing in the interior of a structure the shape of which is geometrically defined by a first face 4 and a second face 5 by an ultrasonic transmitter 13 disposed on the first face 4 side and an ultrasonic receiver 15. The second face 5 constitutes a curved face section 11 which cannot be developed into a flat face. The first face is formed in a defined flat face. The first face is a flat face which can be easily joined closely on the transmission face of the transmitter 13. The two faces 4 and 5 constitute an ideal face for ultrasonic flaw detection so that the size of a minute flaw can be detected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
