PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method carried out more safely, which determines the presence or absence of chemical agents included in timbers to be discarded when tearing down a building. SOLUTION: In the method, a solution of diphenylcarbazide which is made by using a solution of acetic acid as a solvent, is applied as a determination agent on the timber, and after a prescribed period, the presence or absence of the chemical agents composed of chromium compounds is determined on the basis of color reactions in the determination agent.
