METHOD OF DEMETHYLATING TARGET METHYLATED REGION OF GENOMIC DNA

It is intended to provide a demethylation method whereby a specific methylated region, among a plural number of methylated regions in genomic DNA, can be demethylated without affecting other methylated regions. To achieve this object, a target methylated region occurring in one of the sense strand and the antisense strand of genomic DNA in a vital cell is demethylated by artificially constructing: (a) an RNA consisting of a base sequence corresponding to the base sequence of a region containing the whole of the above target methylated region or a part thereof in the DNA strand having the above-described target methylated region therein, or (b) an RNA consisting of a base sequence corresponding to the base sequence of a region containing the neighborhood of the above target methylated region in the DNA strand having the above-described target methylated region therein.
