PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gravure coating method and an apparatus for the same which prevent a print of engraved patterns of a gravure roller from appearing on a base coated surface even when an organic solvent type coating liquid of≤10 cp is applied in a coating amount of≤10 cc/m<SP>2</SP>. SOLUTION: In the gravure coating method, the gravure roller having a large number of oblique line engraved patterns which are engraved at an angleαwith respect to the roller circumferential direction on the surface is rotated, thereby the coating liquid is fed to the roller surface, the excess coating liquid on the surface of the gravure roller is scraped by a doctor blade, allowing the coating liquid of≤10 cp to be retained on the surface part. Thereafter, a film base is caused to run in the inverse direction to the rotation direction of the gravure roller, and thereby the coating liquid in the engraved patterns is thinly applied to the film base. When R is≤0.3, the prescribed angleαis≤45°(1), when 0.3<R≤2, 45°<α≤60°is satisfied (2) or when 2<R, 60°<αis satisfied (3), wherein a running speed of the film base is Vb, a rotation speed of the surface of the gravure roller is Vg and the ratio of Vb to Vg is R.
